Analysis of Today's Grief
We should stick together, it makes sense
While we speak of our men, far away
After that, there’s silence
We’re both aware of this pretence
And try to be cheerful, come what may
We should stick together, it makes sense.
The doorbell rings and we sit, tense
Each struggling for something to say
After that, there’s silence.
Our men fight abroad and sleep in tents
If only they weren’t so far away
We should stick together, it makes sense
The blow is neatly typed: just one sentence
We take the children out to play
We should stick together, it makes sense
After that, there’s silence
