Analysis of A man may dream
A man may dream of freedom
Although it is but a dream,
A man may dream of justice
Though it’s running ‘gainst the stream;
A man may hope for fair play
Although it is just a fevered dream.
A man may fight for freedom
And in that fighting surely die,
A man may fight for justice
Though justice is now a lie;
A man may fight for fair play
Though fair play now isn’t nigh.
A man may hope that freedom
One day may come for all,
A man can pray the Lord above
Will one day hear his call;
And in the hearing grant us
That all tyrants soon shall fall.
A man must have his dreams
To help him to keep going on,
For should the day ever appear
When all his dreams are done;
A man may find he cannot live
When all truth and hope is gone.
A man may dream of many things
Though very few will reach him,
And as his feeble hope dies out
His very future starts looking grim;
Until the day that his final hopes
Have started to grow dim.
A man may dream of justice
In a world that is unjust,
His mettle means he forges on
Until his dreams begin to rust;
He’ll fight and die for freedom
Until his bones are mere dust.
A man may dream of freedom
In a world where few are free,
Lies, deceit, and injustice
May be all he will ever see;
And every dream he ever dreamt
Has proven never to be.
Yes, a man may dream of fair play
In a world that is never fair,
A man may dream of truth and hope
Though, truth and hope are ever rare;
A man may long for honesty
When no-one else on Earth could care!
