Analysis of The hunter readying

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

Soon the hunter will rise
Dressed in raiments of war,
Spears and shields, and battleaxes;
Pray to the god of war;
Then set out on a crusade
To kill all who would oppose him,
Those who worship others
And not the gods he does.

Terror and death will prevail
Inflicted upon the heretics,
Who dare to own a bible
Dare to read their bible,
To question the ways of God
As laid down by mortal men;
Question the will of the pontiff
Who tells them who to hate,
Tells them who to fight
Who to maim and kill.

Mayhem is in his wake
As he stalks and plunders,
All who oppose his progress
All who dissent against him,
Battle axes raised to kill
He rides into a bustling crowd
Men, women, children slaughtering all
Refusing to take prisoners,
On his most high and holy quest
A quest to bring all sinners down.
