Analysis of The insane dream of life and death

A lonely man is struggling
Through the storms of life,
He wonders why he's never found
A lady to make his wife.

He's lonely for the family
That the poor man never had,
Wondering when he made the wrong turn
Just when his life went bad.

No son to carry on his name
No daughter for him to give away,
The insane dream of life and death
Has made his life a bane.

He wonders why he doesn't die
Like all his family and friends,
He almost wishes for the day
When finally the dream will end.

An insane dream of happiness
That never came to him,
As though the Lord made this man
On some off-hand whim.

The insane dream of life and death
Will surely never cease,
Even when the man’s life runs out
And at last, he is at peace.

So on he goes relentlessly
Although he often wonders why,
On he goes on his hopeless way
Wishing just to die.

The insane dream of life and death
Has made his life a pain,
He wonders what new miseries
His life will soon contain.

Nothing in his world seems sane
Yes, madness seems so rife,
And in the end, he wonders if
It would be best to end his life.

But the insane dream of life and death
Keeps the poor man struggling on,
Wondering just when he strayed
When his poor life first went wrong.
