Analysis of The dishonours list
Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)
The dishonourable member for Maribyrnong
Is proudly on the take,
Grafting is our national sport
And only justice is at stake.
He proudly takes gratuities
From those who offer largess,
Proudly he’s Australian
And only helps big business:
For, he needs funds to buy votes
So he buys and sells his conscience,
And he’s learnt the job by rote
Although it makes so little sense.
Proudly he ignores the poor
They’ve got no money for him,
And if he is to make a difference
He cannot act upon a whim.
The autocrats can buy him
He is always up for sale,
And though his borough is run-down
His conscience never quales.
His policies are meant to buy
The help of the mega-rich,
So when he runs for office again
His campaign goes without a hitch.
In our disposable society
His morals have been disposed of,
While he’s a quisling to the super-rich
He cannot be deposed of.
The dishonourable member for Maribyrnong
Knows just what it takes to win,
And always he wears Eau de Cologne
To dous the stink of sin!
