The most beautiful evil

GIDRAF MWANGI 1992 (Murang'a)

I love nature, just like everybody else
But in its beauty, is a core of evil
That created a cruel pecking order
Where the more vicious survive
And the meek perish

Man, for protection, kills the lion
The lion king, in anger, butchers the antelope
The doe, in mourning, mauls the soft tender flesh
Of the green babies of grass

Viciousness is at the core of nature
The means to protect
The means to feed
The means to dominate
The means to be eaten by others

The beauty of a red rose
Is tainted by sharp thorns
The beauty of a calm sea
Is tainted by drowning
The beauty of dawn
Tainted by the scorch of midday

Is there true beauty in nature?
Or is it one side of a coin
And if vicious cruelty is on the other
Is nature the most beautiful evil?
