OUT OF THE DARKNESS
Out of the darkness comes a creature
From some misbegotten time,
Crawling, slinking, creeping
From some foul primordial slime.
Lurking in dark alleyways
Hoping soon for passers-by,
The unsuspecting walk the lane
And from the dark a hellish cry.
A cry to chill the very marrow
Of the bones of any human being,
Out of the darkness comes a fiend
The like of which you’ve never seen.
Nightmare creatures come to life
As darkness takes command,
And terror from some twilight world
Stalks across the darkened land.
A horror from some far-off realm
Of a madman’s worst nightmare,
Leathery flippers, scaly wings
Squid-like beaks that gnash and tear.
Locked indoors the human beings
Cringe and cower till daylight,
Lest they peer through the curtains
And may die of craven fright.
Nothing living dares to move
And crying fills the midnight sky,
Loathsome creatures prowl the dark
And innocents will cruelly die.
Midnight is a time of weeping
In this town that’s lost to fear,
Through the night a hopping, slithering
As unnameable creatures near.
Windows rattled, doors are shaken
By some unseen passing beast,
Shrilling fills the midnight sky
At last, the creature gets to feast.
A wayward worker lost to time
Too late to safely reach his home,
Obscene slurping fills the night
Malignant creatures crunch wet bones.
