The Golden One

I'm a fish in a tank with little space around,
It's crowded with with different species with egos so profound.

Ive learned to swim around within the given space,
Knowing that I need to first survive than winning the race

The good, the bad & the ugly have all lived in here,
Yet I've created my own space as I had no fear.

My fins were cut and dragged to the bottom every other day,
Wondering how to survive as I was not a sting ray.

Black was the shade that I wanted to be.
Not releasing the true colour that I had in me.

A stranger walks in asking for an golden orange one,
We all swam wondering who was the lucky one.

Before I could realise I was picked and was out of tank,
Dropped into the fish bowl and now in a different rank.

Learn to survive and don't cry fowl,
Wait for you chance and the right bowl.

About this poem

I wrote this in 2013, I was traveling, by road stopped for a coffee. At the reception was this Aquarium with beautiful fishes along with one gold fish. Kept looking at it and the poetry just flowed.
