perfect

we are leagues apart

but i wouldn’t have it any other way

catching precious glances of you at the edges of my vision

i dig the tip of my pen into my leg to keep me from disintegrating

isn’t it sick

that i would rather have this

than anything real?

relationships tire me

i’d rather torture myself

because i love it

that’s why i never try to “win”

a life of satisfaction and comfort is nothing

i want to cry my eyes out until my tears choke me dead

and bruise myself for thinking about your wonderful face

i wouldn’t dare to look you in the eye

like we are equals

the rift between us has never been wider

and yet i keep jumping off the cliff

fingers brushing the edge of your shoes

before the rest of me slams into the rock

and i fall down into the deep dark gorge

my broken body looks up and smiles

because at least i can still see you from here

and you look perfect.

About this poem

this is about becoming obsessed with someone, and being slightly masochistic about it.
