Solomon
Fidelis Peter Olowu 1982 (Agbarho Kingdom)
About this poem
With a good sense of word economy, Fidel opines in this Haiku that sounds more like a simple and sweet African proverb, that everyone speaks out loud about their background and/or origin just by their lifestyle. The fact that you're far away from your family does not mean you're at liberty to turn away from the good upbringing with which you were raised because your lifestyle is the map with which society will trace the manner of family you come from without you opening your mouth to say anything. Thus, if you are proud of your family, respect them by living a lifestyle that will make people speak good of them. In the same way, if you belong to an organisation, always do things that will make people want to associate with or eulogise where or what you represent. more »
