Perfect Love

Richard Daish 1949 (DocPenfro)

I see the silver petal fall from your lovely golden hair
I see the whiteness of the dress and the diadem you wear
And I recall another life, where your heart and mine did share
A perfect love, now broken,
A perfect love, now broken.

I see him standing there beside you, an oath to him you'll swear
To forsake all the others and for him alone to care
And I recall another life, where your words and mine did share
A perfect love, now broken,
A perfect love, now broken.

Yet you and he share guilt at breaking promises you made
When first you took him in your arms and in the bed was laid
When tearfully you told me, your words cut me like a blade
A perfect love, now broken,
A perfect love, now broken.

I see the present vision of your body next to mine
And all the love we're stealing when our hearts and arms entwine
And after you had married him, I know that you're still mine
A perfect love, now broken,
A perfect love, now broken.
