Rose
Watch me grow, watch me play
Rose kept the thorns away
never looking frail or old
coloured with love and beaming with bold
a women with the strongest branches
who never got enough chances
her mind was slipping, it wasn’t her fault
the petals falling into a halt
her stem could not withhold her beloved
but her nearest and dearest always felt loved
her presence was enough for them all
however they wished she could just recall
eventually the petals fell, not to grow back again
time lost, and love felt with pain
not one day, not one hour
did I forget about my flower
About this poem
This poem is about watching a loved one going through dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, it compares memory loss to flowers dying and not growing back. It showcases human nature and the love people have to offer, as well as how the family never forgets the pain and suffering they watched their loved one go through.
