Ode To Notre Dame Cathedral of Paris

Nor rain, nor storm, nor fiery flame
Obliterates your awesome stature
Timed in years, timeless in cultural space
Recording and reporting a spiritual legacy
Embracing and elevating human souls.

Deepening and awakening archetypal experiences
A vaulted monument and house of worship
Majestic signature of Sacramental Grace
Exalting the impoverished, grounding the mighty.

About this poem

Written in the form of an acrostic, this poem was inspired by the horrendous flame that consumed a great portion of Notre Dame Cathedral of Paris on April 15, 2019, extinguishing the building’s spire and most of the roof, and resulting in the cathedral not able to host Christmas Mass for the first time since 1803. The poem was written in April 2019 as an ode to celebrate the history and legacy of Notre-Dame de Paris.
