Prayers for the Departed

Long it has been

So very long since you last rested in my embrace. I can remember the warmth of your body as I held you against mine. Your aroma danced for my senses and I knew life was worth the pain.

Long it has been and all I have are memories. Memories which manifest in your ghostly figure. Pale and glowing as if born of moonlight you haunt my steps. I look up from my distractions in the evening and think I catch a glimpse of you watching from behind a corner. I awake some nights to the faint sounds of spectral moaning. The grieved song floats through the air like slow-burning incense.

Are you so opposed that I go on living while you are dead?
Shall I take a knife and spill my blood for you instead?

Perhaps we could finally be together again?
Life is frail and in your absence utterly in vain.

You ghost of my past
My one and only love
Stay with me at last
