Worst Enemy
As I lie peacefully in my bed
With quiet thoughts within my head,
Ignorant of the events ahead,
Not knowing that I'd soon be dead.
A violent kick knocks down my door;
It crashes loudly onto the floor.
My heart is frozen as fear grips my core.
I beg my enemy, "No pain, no more!"
But all I get is a cold, hard stare
As my body he pummels and my soul he lays bare.
The beating, the raping, my flesh he tears.
I plead for mercy, but he refuses to care.
But the night is not over, nay, he's not done.
He knows I'm too feeble, too weak to run.
His hand is guided to a glimmering gun
As his raspy voice counts, "Three, two, one!"
He pulls the trigger, yet there is no sound.
I desperately seek help, but there's none to be found.
My blood and tears have stained my gown;
He smiles then slowly kneels down.
His hot, rancid breath assaults my ear
As he whispers, "You see, my dear,
You and I both know the reason I'm here;
We both know your death is near."
I cry as I ask him, "Is it really so?
Is this the night that I must go?"
Tonight's the night, this fact we know
That I was conquered by my foe.
He pulls out a knife, such a wicked blade!
Into my heart its way was made.
My life and breath begin to fade.
Into the Beast's belly my soul was laid.
No one could save me from that wretched enemy;
You may ask yourself "Why?" The problem, you see,
My enemy was not a he, she, or we,
But my hated, elusive enemy, indeed, was me.
