My Thoughts
ADP 1986 (Illinois)
The world is, once again, increasingly falling into shambles.
Maybe now more than ever.
Trying to save it is a gamble.
I'm just one man, what can I do?
All I have is one voice.
I can tell you what I believe to be true.
When I speak, it sounds as if I'm rambling.
People don't want to listen.
Instead, purposely get my words misconstrued.
Failing to recognize and understand.
Everytime I stand and speak,
For what I know down to my bones to be right,
It always seems to backfire.
Or nobody is around to hear, because nobody cares.
Won't listen because it was me who said it.
By now, you might know who I am.
The next man comes along using my words,
But not with a kind spirit.
And everyone cheers, while I get sneers.
I can't help but gleer back,
I have a right to be mad.
When people enjoy all the fruits of my labor.
As it was done to my ancestors,
My cries have been ignored.
People are eating well,
From my blood, sweat, and tears.
Feeding off of my pain and misery.
Laughing as I'm sad or in agony.
And I have to go through it another year.
Because people don't have it in them to break the cycle of hate.
And they've been teaching hate to their kids.
Teaching that ignorance is bliss,
Destroying everything in their path,
Then expecting someone else to fix their mess
All along, my message has been urgent and consistent.
Their is limited time to get wise in time to save a life.
There's always another storm on the horizon.
It's your job to prepare for it.
Instead people choose to live carefree.
Total disregard for human lives, nature and consequences.
Nobody told me life was meant to be easy.
People can be cruel and mean, to the extreme.
For no good reason.
I wonder what happened to you.
Life isn't fair, but I choose to be.
Even if the whole world is against me,
I will stand on my principles.
I can't speak for the next man.
I confess that my life is a hot mess almost daily.
I guess I need to put myself to the test.
This is an attempt to express, correct, and better myself.
I feel like it's all or nothing.
I need to let go of the bitterness, put it behind me.
Give the world the best of my spirit, put it all on the line.
Because, I'm not trying to complain, but most days, I'm merely existing, not truly living.
There's a chance being the best I can be will kill me.
But if I survive, whether it's this life or the next,
Maybe my real life will begin.
I pray, but I think I have my own role to play.
I often wonder if my destiny is in my own hands.
Is it in the hands of the Most High, or other men.
I figure everything is connected.
It's scary to think people might depend on me.
I don't have all the answers or think anyone alive does either.
With my eyes on the dream, the prize, and the sky,
I struggle day to day to remain positive,
And finish on that note.
About this poem
Just my feelings, my thoughts that have been nagging at me to put down on paper. I hope it is in some way insightful and helpful to someone else with as many issues as I've got. I want people to know that I'm not always this gloomy.
