Late In The Game

Late in the Game

It seems to me to be late in the game
in this, my long complicated journey
Hearts, poker and qwirkle remembered
as games and time well spent along the trail
Winning or losing were equally fine
Reminding me that in the game of life
One must be prepared for plenty of both

It seems to me to be late in the game
My life stands in the balance and the
grim reaper approaches from the wings
A long productive life it was, though not
always so in the experiencing
Pleasures in particular seem to be
replaced by sad planetary endings

It seems to me to be late in the game
Future upheavals of our earth mother
make my eyes tear for all the grandchildren
Are humans capable of looking up
And seeing the metaphoric comet
Streaking into our line of sight sooner
Than you can say Jackie Robinson

It seems to me to be late in the game
For human evolution to make us
A better species…

About this poem

This Poem is about endings, personal and planetary. It was written quickly with no looking back. It is the poem that is also the title of a book of poems I plan to publish this year.
