I Know Love

I’ve always loved, or so I thought,
I’ve always loved, or so I felt,
But love, you say, is what Calvary bought,
Love, you say, is what the cross dealt,
I’ve always loved with the whims of my heart,
I’ve always loved with the appetites of my soul,
But yours is an unchanging mystery, its beauty an art,
For your love is an ocean, engulfing me whole.

I don’t understand it, not in the least,
I can’t explain it, its depth beyond reach,
That I, a prodigal son, will be met with a feast,
Or that I be forgiven, all my sins, each and each,
Why though? Why such royalty for a mere beast?
The savagery of my sins are too many to preach,
But you honour me, you call me a priest,
A chosen generation, with your gospel to teach

But why though? My value is certainly not high,
For like smoke, I arise only to fade,
My eyes open to the blink of life, to live and to die,
Underserving, you still made this trade,
Blood for salvation, death for eternity, truth for a lie,
This sacrifice is none like to be repaid,
For you left your throne; your glory and honour ran dry,
As you hang dying, shame and sin made.

This all for me. This all for love,
Now I know love, and He is forgiving,
It is such it pours only from above,
Now I know love, and He is fulfilling,
It is Spirit, the resting of a white dove,
Now I know love, and He is living,
For love is Christ and Christ is love,
Now I know love, and He is everlasting.
