Silent Steps
She is listened to by know one, mistreated by everyone.
Her wounds kept secret, though betrayed through her eyes.
Given illumination, the truth can be seen.
Are you looking?
Do you see?
Look for the purpose in her walk, but see the shuffling of her feet.
Hopping, skipping, and jumping, foreign to her.
No child like strides with a giggle to go with it.
Looking to see her floating on a cloud with feelings of freedom.
A lightness felt in her heart, a smile gleaming.
Are you looking?
Do you see?
She doesn't smile. There is no freedom.
Worry and dread have made blue lines on her face.
Legs tired.
Timid, tempered steps she makes.
Silent as she walks from room to room.
Through the front door, leading her into the den of madness.
Her body breaks faith.
Reveling in what is only known to her.
Are you looking?
Do you see?
Perseverance, determination weighing heavy with each step she takes.
Knowing what is coming, never knowing what is coming.
Steps leading her into the torture chamber that is the next room.
She walks through the kitchen where she is a slave.
She walks through the dinning room where she is starved.
She walks through the living room where she is no good.
Into her bedroom where she is alone and lonely.
Are you looking?
Do you see?
She is me.
