Goodnight Love

This is to help you sleep,
I write this to you when you're laying on your soft bed
counting sheep, trying to fall asleep.
with your room that’s full of life.
With your warm blankets,
I can only dream of being with you.
Holding your hands and tracing your palm,
as my mom taught me to feel calm.
I know the moments we smile last in my heart.
I value our time together until we depart.
Our love is new, young; juvenile
But each time I see you it grows manifesting
into more.
Last night on the phone I heard you snore.
I just wish to see you tonight.
So we can hold each other in the moonlight.
I handwrite these notes to you
to read back when you think of me.
Remember my hugs, my smile, and every random burst of energy.
Every rhyme I’ve told cleverly.
Every memory.
So I say this with love, sleep tight, and don't let the bed bugs bite
And if they do beat them till they're black and blue.
Oh, and don't forget.
I miss you.

About this poem

I write this in the thought of my girlfriend. The ending line relates to my grandfather who was always clever with his rhymes and would tell me ¨sleep tight don't let the bed bugs bite¨ I added my own part to this and it's my way of putting his memory into my life.
