Two Peas in a Pod
Karl Constantine FOLKES 1935 (Portland)
Two peas in a pod:
Individuation and
Being “born again.”
Together — separated.
By discernment, seen as ONE.
About this poem
Analytical psychology speaks of the ego, the psyche, and Individuation; and Christian faith doctrine speaks of The Adversary (“Ha-Satan”), the Holy Spirit, and of being “born again” into wholeness or holiness; or regenerated in spirit. Analytical psychology and Christian faith doctrine are like the proverbial two peas in the same pod that are seemingly apart yet, teleologically, demonstrating expressions of the same goal — return to wholesomeness, or transcendence of the human soul beyond the normal fractured ego self of narrowed experience and behavior. Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung puts it this way: “Individuation appears, on the one hand, as the synthesis of a new unity which previously consisted of scattered particles, and on the other hand, as the revelation of something which existed before the ego and is in fact its father or creator and also its totality” (Carl Jung, Collected Works, Volume 11, paragraph 400). more »
