Ghosts In The Mist
'Twas right before sunrise, early in the morn,
As I walked the foggy beach, a sense of the forlorn
The ocean rumbling, but perfectly timed,
And the sea, sky, and sand so beautifully rhymed
I was searching for meaning, peace from my sadness,
And a resolution to my mind's frenetic madness
My intention on this day, was to seek out gratitude,
For too long I had given myself endless latitude
To be bitter at the venomous, clinging to loss,
To keep my heart cold, covered by frost
Yet none of this resurrected those I miss,
An sent me deeper into a pensive abyss
So today was my day to start anew,
And with different glasses I would see the world through
I looked up from my thoughts, out at the sea,
And in the mist-laden waves, a vision came to me
Two diaphanous creatures carving waves through the water,
Who were these lone souls out in the fog at my altar?
I was transfixed by their beauty, by their athletic grace,
And in an instant, a tear streamed down my face
As they came up on the sand, these figures I knew,
Quickly they embraced and saw me in view
They walked towards me as I trembled all the while,
And I swear they both looked at me, nodded and smiled
I reached out for them, but they dissipated into ash,
And as ephemerally as they appeared, they were gone in a flash
On my knees weeping, one thing was clear,
Those men I loved would always be there.
