The Future of Fear

Next week, next month, next year
I can barely see what’s near
Predict, expect, or dream I fear
For the future is never clear
I hoped, dreamed, and in my prayer, I was sincere
Never could I expect to be here
In my heart, I can only fear
A future that may be severe
True and honest, my dear
In life, only the strong persevere
Time will pass, and death will near
And for good memories, I will cheer
My fears, I will spear
My fate, to my desire will adhere
And in time, my thirst for life will reappear
And in time, my voice you will hear

About this poem

After leaving a war-torn country at eighteen, I contemplate my fear of an uncertain future and life's unexpected twists and turns, hoping to find the thirst for life again.
