The Stretching Hand
It reaches out to you silently
The lame, the helpless, the young, the old
It says I am here they're no need to fear
If ever you feel no hope, only despair
Reach out, take it, let it be your guide.
Who are you? Where are you? What are you?
These questions it will never pose
It stretches out to everyone
It brings with it love, hope, joy, happiness
Reach out, take it and let it be your guide
Day in, day out, why do you fear?
As if this hand cannot your burdens bear
It is strong, dependable, reliable, fearless
It wants you, it wants me
Reach out, take it and let it be your guide
This hand is always reaching out
It is the hand of God
Place your hand in that hand
And everything will be done
Reach out, take it and let it be your guide.
About this poem
The poem enhances the reassurance that when someone grabs hold to The Stretching Hand it will provide comfort, guidance, joy, and strength to anyone who yearns for all of the above. I wrote the poem in 2001. It was accepted to be included in poetry.com's The Sound of Poetry, on CD, cassette tape (dating myself) as a deluxe three-album set. Then life happened which prevented me from following up on the offer. Please enjoy reading it below.
