The Goal of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)
Karl Constantine FOLKES 1935 (Portland)
Consider this thought
And its ramifications
Humans like machines
As autonomous systems
Robotic Homo Sapiens.
That our emotions
Are somewhat automated
As mere “behaviors”
Intelligence created
Like artificial systems.
How human are we
If we can be machine-mapped
As neural networks
With “higher forms of thinking”
Designed as “deeper learning?”
Humans as machines
With deeper forms of thinking
Robots made of flesh
Emotions as behaviors
Intuitively designed.
Are they ‘created’
Emotions as behaviors
As forms of learning
Like machine intelligence
Degrees of separation?
These are the questions
Posed now by some engineers
And as scientists
Exploring intelligence
As algorithmic systems.
To create a link
Between mankind and machines
Without talk of Soul
All explained as behaviors
Since Soul cannot be measured.
AGI it’s called
This field of exploration
Design of science
A form of ‘intelligence’
That’s fully automated.
To narrow the gap
Between humans and robots
Robotic humans
Bereft of Soul and Spirit
The doomsday of Modern Man.
Man as ‘creator’
Replacing his Creator
‘Hard Engineering’
With quantum computation
Neuromorphic in nature.
O the fantasy
Of such great expectations
Man out of Eden
With dreams of divinity
Crafted by wizened serpent.
About this poem
Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is a neuroscience brain approach concerning “deep learning” and the proposition of designing in the future “active inferencing” that is machine-based. From an AGI perspective this ambitious proposal is based on the premise that a “conscious” AGI in a future perceived world, can be designed to have the capacity to eventually create its own ‘source code’ very much in the fashion of humans as biological systems that are DNA-graphed innately and fundamentally with the algorithm of survival and reproduction. The problem with the AGI hypothesized proposition, as I see it, is that it is a purely computer-based system designed to model itself after nature and the laws of nature, but with the crucial absence of the biological component so essential to all natural forms of life. Born of consciousness, we, as a living human species, and in concert with all living particles of the universe, are all comprised of the primary elements of nature: earth, air, fire, and water. We are therefore not superior to, outside of, or separate from nature, as is the case with the artifacts of artificial intelligence. In short, humans, as biological systems, are not machines. And machines, as artifacts and as by-products of human inventions, are secondary-manufactured simulations, not primary elements of nature; and therefore can never be categorized as humans, or even as being humanoid; and AGI must therefore remain forevermore as sophisticated simulated artificial constructions that exist alongside but outside of the natural laws of nature. more »
