Night Terror
I wake up crying your name out loud
Heart racing I look around
My face feels wet as tears roll down
Sleep escapes me though darkness is a shroud
Closing my eyes I try to wait
Feeling my pulse slow down its gait
I see your face smiling at me
Why does it feel like ecstasy
The pain is real and bittersweet
It is all but a dream, a short sweet memory
I wish your arms could hold me tight
To stop these terrors that come to me at night
I close my eyes and try to sleep
Thinking about what you meant to me
Can I get through this night
And wake up in time to see the light
Night terror night terror go away
Please, Only let sweet memories stay today
The pain slowly fades away
As my mind goes back to sleep I pray
About this poem
This poem is about adults experiencing night terrors after losing someone they love deeply. Grief affects our lives in many ways and some fights unfortunately, we fight alone at night, in our sleep.
