You Saved me

Even in my wildest dreams I didn’t see myself here
What you did for me is so crystal clear.
I walked around strutting like I was slick
Digging a hole as big as a ditch.
You came along and saw my plight
Gave me energy to stand up and fight.
You had my back and I thought it was all me
You loosened my chains and set me free..
You held out your hand and I could see your strength
I knew by your touch that you were my friend.
I cried and prayed and prayed and cried
Through it all you stood by my side.
Wiping my tears, you could see past my dirt
Telling me how much I am worth.
Thank you Father for saving me.

About this poem

I wrote this poem right before my my 64th birthday and was overwhelmed with my story and how I was favored by God. At 30 I did not believe I would reach 50 yet hear I am still giving thanks

Bernice Alston

I am #4 of 11 siblings born in NC. My teen years and most of my adult years were spent in DC and I've always loved reading and writing. I am inspired by so much that I try to capture it in words and don't even know my poet style. I am a mother to three and a grandmother to four, and every I am in awe of my life. I am about to retire and can't wait to wake up to rush to go anywhere. more…
