Flying Fu$k

Heather Lydia Thornhill 1981 (Manchester)

I have my self respect
but that day I didn't know
How far the night would take me
And how much I'd have to show
I was young but never care free
But the camera seemed to lie
It said I was more beautiful
Than the painting in my mind
I said that I was fine
That the booze and men were mine
But inside I was exploding
From the bomb you left inside
One day I realised
By then it was too late
I looked myself in the eye
And fear filled my face
The people in that room
Where anyone did lay
Were so used to being there
That I couldn't even stay
I wasn't in a painting
Or photographic frame
It was me and them and God
And they looked all the same
I said I want to leave
I didn't like the game
Where the night took me,
Only I was to blame.
