Backstabbing Owl

Natalie Downs 2007 (Bremerton, Washington)

How I hate the way you hoot out your lies
Invading my mind throughout the day and throughout the night,
Always dreaming about my black burial site,
While I spill out tears in fright.

My hate for you is tricky...
Your deadly hooked beak, and your hungry wide eyes.

I sometimes want to die before the sunrise
To avoid your feathered lies.

Snow chills the desert berries of January
While you live out your life in the sanctuary.

My father left me and my mother when I was just a baby. My mom and my father had, and still has a joint custody over me. This means my father is still able to contact me and have me visit during school breaks. My father used to do horrible things to me and my mother, but he always lies about it. My father is always looking for more and more, trying to manipulate me with mental and emotion abuse. He will disappear for years at a time, then try to come back acting like he didn't miss years of my life. He lives out this good life without having to worry about how he is affecting my family. I have been struggling with my health issues, so I am trying to turn to writing poems to express how I am feeling. more…
