Candy
at first her voice kept quiet
hiding behind your faded smile
her salt piercing resilient tissues
a room full of three disguised as two unaware of the elephant
soon however her presence known as if when a blue whale groans
struggling to remain calm, I start cheering inside your prison
disguised as a church
my restless fingers trace your palm
if these predicting lines that represent are true, I mustn't reveal too much
in any energized room my eyes never roam, tunnel vision, no decision, as only you will do angry lips scorch your frozen cheek
I tap my feet to the sweet black boot
music your brass knuckled hands beat
our bed once warm now cold to the touch
you're fast asleep under the table
on which the lines were drawn
these hammered wings can’t weather this storm
head to heart gemini twins remembering green grassy field days when we planted the seed
close by, the clock mocks time
smoking in the rain I try to escape
from our songs that constrict
I dry my wounds inflicted from her steep win and pretend we never met your dirty tongue quietly screaming, in a haze
need of rescue
once again shutting those grassy field days out
ribs and bones in view
gone are the one bench for two at our favorite restaurant
our hands held tight under the table the conversation loose
you return to her dark drawn-out cold nursing that would renew spilt mother’s milk
I cannot tolerate or recreate the man I once knew
she can strike at any moment
pipe held in sweaty mouth flowing victory I have to let go and not pursue
