Purgatory

Michelle Baker 1980 (Detroit)

Now I close my eyes to hide;
To look asleep, to weep inside.
My heart is broken, mind's irate
What better state to imitate?

This cryogenic place I dwell
Somewhere between heaven and hell,
Leaves me suspended; hoping for
A cliff from which to plunge or soar.
