Drowning Regret
Ali Mehdi Zaidi 2005 (Lucknow)
I feel like i am drowning.
In this deep ocean of endless odds
This deep void of thought
I wonder why am i frowning.
Is it just helplessness
Or the thought of not even trying
Of getting out of this mess that my conscience created.
I think it's just empathy that i ought
To feel for myself
Of not even attempting to escape this void, this ocean
And reach the surface where lies nothing but clear skies, clear thought
My eyes blacking out
My lungs running out of air
Now i know why i was frowning
It was just pity that i felt
On how useless i really am
To not attempt to overcome this slumber
To think that i could have done something when i had the time
Before giving in to this deepness rather than
Panicking after drowning in this terrifying sublime.
Waiting for someone to rescue me
Which only caused me to drown even further
In this deep void
To the point where others can't even help me
From this mess that thyself did discover
About this poem
The deep void, ocean is used as a metaphor of our problems in which we are drowning. As a poet, I've tried to portray thoughts of a depressed person who's doing nothing to get out of the problem he's in, except waiting for someone else to rescue him.
