The Mighty Hawk

Amidst dawn’s golden light
that shines upon the canyon bright
a hawk awakens from the night
eager for morning’s first flight

Within its pinions, impressive as they are
lies evidence of wounds that left them scarred
from injuries inflicted when caged and barred
now hopelessly appear to be flawed

Great sorrow and pain must’ve been felt
as bones were broken by blows it was dealt
seeking refuge, in clefts the hawk dwelt
convinced with belief it couldn’t be helped

To fly in freedom it pined and longed
and to become healed from how it was wronged
a force was needed, powerful and strong
to return to the sky where it belonged

So love embraced its broken heart
causing the darkness from its mind to depart
bestowing hope of a new life to start
the crippling battle love did outsmart

Now with splendor the hawk soars high
life has been restored in its eyes
against the odds it did rise
so once again, the mighty hawk flies
