Battling the snow

Her face is pale and white resembling the snow
She shivers and shakes but it’s not even cold
She’s questioning her antics, and the life that she chose
She looks in the mirror, there’s powder stuck to her nose.
“It’s just a bad day” she lies to herself
She’s scared to open up and ask someone for help
So day by day she struggles to breath in fresh air
In hopes that one day a hero will appear
A hero who fights these demons inside
The ones nobody sees, the ones she tries to hide.
She’s battling herself, shes fighting her own mind
Each time she comes in contact with those little white lines
Even when she’s strong enough the devil just creeps in
He convinces her that this much fun could never be a sin.
Her shirts baggy, her pants fall, she’s looking kind of thin
She says she wants to stop, but she sees the devils grin.
Tomorrow she’ll get better, tomorrows a new day
She’ll say anything just to make you think that she’s okay.
But slowly she is losing hope she knows she bound to slip
She craves the taste she craves the high she wants to feel the drip.
Her throat goes numb, her eyes get wide as she breathes it all in
And just like that the battles lost, she let the devil win.

About this poem

I wrote this after I got sober to remind myself why I fought so hard to get where I am at today.
