Darkness

                I’ve been drowning in darkness
                             Lost and afraid.
                       I’ve forgotten who I am
                               Along the way.
              I became miserable and depressed
                          Negativity took over.
I didn’t want to be around myself.
                                      If I didn’t
How could I expect anyone else too?
                             Faking my smiles
To try and hide the pain.
                                Not wanting to
Let people know how bad it was.
                          Darkness kept coming
Dragging me down deeper and deeper.
                            I couldn’t breathe
               I couldn’t appreciate what I had so,
                                      I lost it.
Maybe not completely, but I lost it
                               Making it worse.
I went deeper into the darkness.
                                   It got hard
                    To even fake the happiness.
                                Then one day
A light switch in my brain clicked
                                 And I started
To climb my way out of the darkness
