Whoever You Are
Whoever You Are
Whoever you are
You are constant
When you came to me
You carried hidden secrets
Some inside you some unknown
A young woman riding on a steed of certainty
Symbols emblazoned on your armor
A world view beyond the senses
How was I to know
You needed me
For an earthly rendezvous
A short time on this rotating orb
Of evolving matter
Formed over eons
Out of forces underlying the universe
To become all we are
All we have become…
Whoever you are
You are constant
In your desires in your needs
Shaping my world around you
Two paths converged
When we traveled together
To islands and temples
In an early morning Sunrise
A union in the ruins of the Maya
A lark ascending
On the steps of a mountain
How was I to know
Where the journey would take us
To become all we are
All we have become…
Whoever you are
You are constant
In time your desires
Touched mine and brought us
New life to weave into our days and years
To be cared for in the constancy of our home
The rituals the special days
And the daily acknowledgements
Your touch on our lives was an extension of
Your upbringing and your meeting with
A seminal figure of the 20th century
How was I to know
Just how much these ideas
Would clothe your world and
Leave me living in the context
Of your cloth and your beliefs
To become all we are
All we have become…
Whoever you are
You are constant
The years have passed since our meeting
In the midst of the songs of Stillwater
And the promenade in Sutro Park
Our children’s births their needs and growth
The many joys and occasional disagreements
That punctuated all the upbringing
All the togethers the singing
And the occasional dancing
The moments of wonder and communion
That wove the tapestry of our union
Becoming all we are
All we have become…
