PLANTING SEEDS

I'm planting seeds
Into the cold hard ground,
My fingers are raw and bloody
But I don't mind the pain.
I'm planting seeds
The seeds of freedom,
The seeds of hope,
The seeds of peace.
I know
The rain will come again
And soak the ground beneath,
And the earth will come alive,
The flowers will rise
Out of the dust,
Out of the ashes,
My mother's beloved roses
Pale pink against green.
