Fractured Fairy Tales
I am afraid
That if I turn over the page
of my life
I will discover that our marital journey
is ending
I am afraid
that one day I am going to walk through the door
and find that my love has flown
the coop
and that he has gone back
and sought out his roots
How can I stay strong
when little things tell of you differently
My heart is fractured
into a myriad of shards
that prick at the sides of my intent
that prick at my heart and soul
And each day the pieces stab me further
I feel each jagged edge
As they get lodged deeper
When all I wanted
was to give love
and be loved in return
But alas our story was not meant to be
For the pieces are too scattered
Too unmatched
For us the fairy tale has ended
And you my prince
has morphed into a toad!
About this poem
This is another of my poems that I wrote in 1999 during the time I was in the throes of my marriage breakup. It was a devastating time for me.
