Philip, expatriate

Doug Blair 1951 (London)

Picked him up
In a Destroyer.
The Brits did.
Greece was in chaos.
Down with the Crown
Father had no hold upon
Leadership with
Integrity, equity
Frugality, popularity
Or any other plus.
Mother, poor dear, was
On her way to
Unsoundness of mind.
Sequestration.
And Philip, wee Philip
Was trundled out
Of the land of the Ancients
In a dresser drawer.
He was headed for
A misty Isle
Where people loved to
Read and talk.
Go for long walks.
Toast Lake Poets
And R. L. Stevenson.
Agatha.
Much of St. Luke.
And the Bard of Avon.
Drink Guinness and Bells.
Gather at Stonehenge
With stars in their courses.
Smack the cricket bowl.
Howling out a Victory.
And there was Elizabeth
Radiant as well.
Balmoral’s Belle.
