Prisoner

Without chains or robes or binds of any kind
I’m still a prisoner inside my mind
A fortress created just for me
With walls so high I cannot see
Built to keep me in and others out
Till I feel safe to roam about
My scars run deep my darkness creeps
But my soul’s more beautiful than the sea
And as I heal from god knows what
The walls stay high and doors nailed shut

About this poem

It’s a poem someone who’s been hurt over and over and is now living like a prisoner in her own mind in fear of others hurting her again.
