WHILE YOU WERE OUT

While you were out
I planned all the ways
I would say I’m sorry
And all the ways you
Would apologize better.

I took out the garbage for you
And took a nap for me.
I ate ice cream out of the carton
And wore your slippers
Because you would never know.

While you were out
I paid the bills
And paid the price,
And I’m sorry
You were so wrong.

About this poem

Have you ever had an argument with your spouse while positive you are in the right? This is about the quiet wait for things to cool down while secretly knowing who won the argument.

I have been writing since I was a child. Although I hold 2 masters degrees in English, it is the act of living that inspires me. I love the irony and humor in life, and I most enjoy expressing this poetically. more…
