Addiction
Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)
The sun’s shining in,
But I can’t see his face anymore.
His love’s still raining in,
But my heart’s going off to war.
I don’t understand this struggle,
That’s going on inside of me.
Everything looks black and blue,
That these bloodshot eyes can see.
I look for the righteous,
But I see only darkness.
I look for justice,
But hear cries of distress.
I come to the vineyard,
But the vineyard is empty.
I look for my wine,
But find only the press.
Where is my house that once stood in the desert?
Where is my home on the top of the hill?
The Lord took them away along with my body.
He took them away because I worshiped a pill!
