The Young Horsewoman

The Young Horsewoman

As the Young Horsewoman approaches,
The horse follows her with his intelligent eyes.
Over time, they have built
Confidence, Reliance, Trust, and Determination.
He senses that the time has come
To put their experience to the test.

Placing a foot in the stirrup
She mounts Bucephalus,
Her boots embracing his flanks
Sensing the strength of his haunches,
So powerful, yet gentle.

They move off
Connected with light but firm control,
That never interferes with his desire
To soar like a falcon.
So, like Pegasus, they fly,
The Horsewoman and her steed,
But with no need for wings.

About this poem

I have been watching my granddaughters ride at horse shows for years. During that time, I have seen them grow into confident young women, and that inspired me to write this poem.
