Well...apparently my return to the 'dead dog' theme wasn't a good idea. It's hard to ever know what might touch people's hearts from month to month, so I guess it's just a better idea to go with what touches your own heart and 'take a shot' :).

The good news is that if or when themes run dry, you always have that keen writer's touch to fall back on, as well as sharp mind to draw from.

Your form and visuals are perfect. I had this one pinned because I actually felt 'Winter' envelope me from every direction. Great Job Steve!

Thank ya, darlin. This was the one that landed the single vote. I thought it came out pretty good, but again, felt the topic may not appeal so much to others. Meh! I took a shot. Not for lack of effort, I spose.

By the way, here is the last passage I chose to leave out for fear the poem would be too long to keep anyone's interest. Turns out should'a just left the sucker in.

      Laughs
      and cries fill each waft

      As
      sledding turns skin into scratch

      To
flourish the harvest of winter aloft

      From
all that our memories can hatch

I always spend too much time second guessing my work, and I actually think it's good to go back to look at grammar; punctuation etc. But when I try to re-arrange the whole thing...that never works in my favor.

I think all poets and writers do. In fact, I think anyone who cares for any endeavor they hold close to their respective hearts does. Look at musicians for instance. How fickle and picky they are, but only to the detriment of band members who may disagree. There's not a lot wrong with being self-perfective to some extent over time, but if we congeal all of that need to be perfect into short time spans where others may be infected, then it can get old fast. I think Don Henley mentioned that in regard to the Eagles. Too many chiefs, not enough Indians. Got to be flexible and forgiving, even to self, is my guess.
