The Shantyman (working, sharing Christ’s best)
The Shantyman
It is good to toilWith the men I know;
And to trim the treesAnd to lay them low;
And to haul their bulkTo the stream below;
I am glad that the Lord sent me here.
And from time to time
When the mood is right,
In the vaulted wood
With its dappled light;
I can hear the Jay.
Blue and cranky some
He becomes my friend
From coniferous home.
I will work the trees
Bring them down so proud
Crack the cuttings ring.
They crash down so loud.
And we hook and pull
To the stream below
Horses know routine
They are sure and slow.
Evening comes at last
With the fires and stew
And we chat of things.
Even God might do.
Jesus found right here.
Little Guy who prays
And the weeks will pass
And the Season pays.
