Piccadilly. Perfect.
Lights are on all night
Every night
Milling crowds
All with smiles
Eyes fighting Sleep.
Seeing at the circumference
Just about every nation.
Theatre goers in the afterglow
Game players
Buskers
Boutique shoppers
Hungry stomachs
About to find something exotic
Probably unhealthy dish
Probably gaseous.
One turns to fellow travelers.
On either side
Surprising agreement, conversation
Isn’t this great?
Circus focuses at centre
On love statue
Cherub with bow and arrow
Finding, firming up rich
New affections.
In whole world.
One other place
Bearing such rich fruit…
In cosmopolitan ways.
Niagara Falls.
Played happily at each
With Hilary.
My constant fellow traveler.
And route planner.
About this poem
Piccadilly Circus is a road junction and public space of London's West End in the City of Westminster. It was built in 1819 to connect Regent Street with Piccadilly. In this context, a circus, from the Latin word meaning "circle", is a round open space at a street junction.[1]
