Depression and Anxiety
I wake up for the day
It’s just a normal day, as anyone would say
I struggle to get outta bed as I sigh
I lay in bed as I wonder why
My body is exhausted even after my slumber
I can’t understand this feeling of somber
I smell food cooking in the kitchen
I sit up in bed looking like a confused kitten
I walk in the kitchen, as mom greets me
She looks at me and says,” you’re finally outta bed I see.”
I slept past noon like I have been
I use to be able to sleep till eight when I was ten
I leave home with my stomach empty
My face showing all but drowsy
My mother brings me to school
I cannot breathe, as I feel like I am drowning in a pool
I don’t know why I feel this way
It’s just a normal day, as anyone would say
I sit in class in the very back towards the wall
Hoping the teacher doesn’t give me a call
As the day goes by, and it is time for lunch
I start to eat, but it isn’t a bunch
I sit alone at the table as I stare at the others
Wishing i was back in bed underneath the covers
School ends, and my mother picks me up
As I sit in the car I feel like I am inside a cup
Staring out the window, as I think of a happy family sitting at a table together
With a dad, mom, and even a brother
We arrive at home, and I hurry to my bed
All I could still feel was the feeling of dread
I lay in bed exhausted from the day
But it was just a normal day, as anyone would say
I close my eyes as I begin to drift off to sleep
I remember the days I would count sheep
I drift off as I begin to think,” it wasn’t that deep.”
As I would begin to start a weep
Something red drips on the carpet
My heart rate begins to be very moderate
I smile a big smile
I wouldn’t wake up in a while
it was just a normal day, as anyone would say
Till there wouldn’t be another day
About this poem
This is a poem deeply inspired by the feelings towards depression and anxiety. Depression and anxiety are very misunderstood, and schools completely ignore teens and childerns mental health. Whenever this feeling is ignored, and is left untreated or ignored it can lead to children and teens committing to their last breath. This story isn’t about me, but a random character struggling with depression and anxiety that was ignored, and they didn’t even understand what was happening with them. more »
