Love Is a Funny Thing
Amber Saldivar 2001 (San Antonio, Texas)
Love is a funny thing,
It can break you or make you
I like to think your love did both.
Broke me to pieces but made me into me,
As we sat there in the middle of nowhere surrounded by trees
I couldn’t help but think of WHY?
Why did you walk out instead of setting me free?
Right there in the middle of those trees you grabbed my red bleeding heart,
Throwing it to the tree smashing it to pieces.
I sat there for months, waiting to see if my bleeding heart would grow.
The trees grew and grew taller each day that passed, blocking the light from the stars
The darks days came and left as I sat there waiting for you to set me free from you.
Waiting for you to come back and set my world on fire, to burn those trees,
To let the moon and the sun light my sky again, but you never did.
One day I saw a sprout come from where my bleeding heart lay and from there grew a tiny flower.
I watered that flower with the tears of you.
Then that tiny flower turned even bigger then I gave that flower more attention and care,
The tiny flower grew bigger and bigger each day that passed until one day,
The flower was no longer a flower but was my bleeding heart.
Except my heart no longer bleed for you, but for me,
So love is a funny thing.
It can make you or break you,
The thing no one tell you is that if someones love breaks you,
Let your own make you.
