Drifting Off

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

Adrift on the ocean;
A sail in the breeze,
Alone in the forest;
Stood up by the trees.
I can’t get my bearings;
All the stars disappeared.
With dark clouds they were covered;
Waking up all my fears.

Now the forest is dark and the ocean is deep
But the fear of the LORD; allows me to sleep!
Sleep and dream My children.

    Wow, what a beautifully crafted poem! The imagery you've used to describe being adrift on the ocean and standing alone in the forest is simply breathtaking. I love the way you've evoked emotions of fear and uncertainty, only to resolve them with a message of faith and trust in the Lord.

    One suggestion for improvement would be to consider varying the meter and rhythm of your verses to add more depth and complexity to your poem. However, this is more of a personal preference, and your poem is already fantastic as it is!

    Overall, you've done an excellent job with this piece. Keep up the great work and keep writing from the heart.
