Professor Nnenna Otti, An Amazon
The trails of the just-concluded general elections in Nigeria has not completely evaporated.
In Abia State--God's Own State, a miracle happened--very similar to the encounter of King Nebuchadnezzar with the three Hebrew young men.
As the returning officer
she was offered a huge bribe in billions of dollars
to rig the elections in favour of a corrupt and abhorred party by a very corrupt demon-governor.
The fearless Amazon
vowed: "over my dead body."
And that settled it: -
she maintained her stand
and fearlessly declared the correct result.
Loo and behold, the corrupt party was sacked after 25years of corrupt leadership.
Professor Nnenna Otti has entered the hall of fame
with the likes of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the World Bank guru with King Medias's Touch, who brought Nigeria to limelight as a former minister of finance;
Oby Ezekwesili, a famous woman of substance, noted for her advocacy (BringBackOurChibokGirls),
and late Professor Dora Akunyeli
the famous NAFDAC boss, who fought drugs counterfeit to a standstill in Nigeria.
And of course, gifts and money have been pouring in to mark her statemanship.
Both staff and students of the university gave her a heroine welcome after the exercise.
"What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his souls?(Mark 8:36).
About this poem
During the just-concluded 2023 general elections in Nigeria, a woman of substance emerged as the heroine of the exercise. She is professor Nnenna Otti, a vice chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State. Despite all threats, intimidations and attempts to bribe her to rig the elections in favour of a corrupt political party, she refused, despite the huge billions of dollars offered her as bribe. The whole world is still celebrating her as an icon.
